In 2005, Austin artists Evan Voyles (the Neon Jungle) and Gail Chovan (BlackMail) were set to expand their family and home on a street of four identical cottages just behind South Congress Avenue. To maintain the historic charm of the street, a setback steel structure was designed around the original house with three levels set above the preserved cottage. The couple discovered that the house would become home to twins, however health complications with both altered the course of construction. Completed in 2017, this project became the longest active residential permit in Austin. Each phase of the project added depth and dimension to the original design, and the result is Bough House, which captures the spirit of this incredible family while showcasing their creations and passions.
