FAB Architecture

800 Bouldin Avenue, 78704

Rendered in burnished white plaster with broad overhangs, this new, four-level home pays homage to classic modernism and exploits the unique characteristics of its site. On the first level, the entry and guest bedroom are defined by an existing concrete retaining wall. The second and third stories contain living and sleeping spaces that open up to terraces nestled in the mature oak canopies. Atop it all, a roof deck soars above the treetops to embrace the panoramic downtown view. A sculptural stair of steel and white oak serves as the spine connecting each level. With a simple palette of materials, and glazed openings that expand the view beyond the confines of the interior spaces, the design of this residence looks to recede—emphasizing the intangibles of light and space, and in the end pursuing timelessness.
