Renovation / Addition
2,860 square feet
A young couple relocating from Chicago found this typical 1940s Tarrytown home and began planning an addition to create more space for their expanding family. The aim was to be respectful of the style and scale of the existing residence while addressing the needs of a modern family in a design-led, budget-conscious manner. A 1970s addition was removed from the rear of the house and the front entry was reorganized. The kitchen and family room were relocated to a new two-story addition with children’s bedrooms and a play area upstairs. A casita, separate from the main body of the home, is integrated with the family room by a covered porch with sliding doors at each end. The residence maintains a discreet and welcoming street presence while the light-filled addition sits back amidst large oak trees.
