After 40 years of teaching, the clients desired a gallery and studio addition to complement their 1970s-era modern home. Over the past 30 years, they had surrounded their home with a series of outdoor rooms leaving one logical area for an addition—the front yard—which offered a unique opportunity to transform the entire identity of the home. Paired towers bind to create a foyer with an upper level library. Ambient lights are filtered by translucent walls facing North. Skylights project pools of light through a series of ceiling baffles throughout the day. Perched atop the entry, the library is surrounded by views of a canopy of trees. The new sculpture garden and bocce court were created near the gallery with a private Zen garden that wraps around the bedrooms.
